Richest Athletes 2026: Our Ranking

Last updated: May 22, 2026 · Methodology: All figures are independent editorial estimates aggregated from regulatory filings, audited reports and reputable industry reporting (Forbes, Bloomberg, Billboard, industry trades). Where credible sources disagree, we present a midpoint and link our reasoning. See our Methodology page for the full method.

Athlete wealth is increasingly built off the field. Playing salaries and prize money matter, but the biggest fortunes here are powered by equity — Michael Jordan’s Jordan Brand and franchise stake, LeBron James’s lifetime Nike deal and media company, lifetime endorsement contracts and ownership positions. This is our 2026 ranking of the wealthiest figures whose fortunes were built primarily in sports.

How we ranked

Each estimate is a 2026 snapshot built bottom-up: career earnings (contracts, royalties, prize money, backend participations) plus identifiable assets (real estate, businesses, equity holdings), minus reported liabilities. Where a single Forbes or Bloomberg figure exists, we anchor on it and note material divergences. Where credible sources range widely — and they often do, because deal terms are private — we use a conservative midpoint and label the estimate accordingly. We re-rank annually.

What we did not include

  • Actors, musicians and pure-business figures — they have their own hubs.
  • Team owners and executives whose wealth was not built primarily as an athlete.
  • Coaches and broadcasters without a primary playing career (noted as a qualification where relevant).
