Favre started his college career as a freshman. He played for the Golden Eagles from 1987 to 1990 and appeared in five games and completed 19 of his 34 passing attempts for 220 yards and two touchdowns.

His breakout season came as a sophomore in 1988 and he appeared in 11 games and threw for 2,392 yards, 22 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
