The essentials

01

Celebrity Net Worth publishes the recurring $150 million estimate, but it is not an audited disclosure and cannot be independently reproduced. [1]

02

TheStreet disclosed $2.8 million of 2018 cash compensation: $2.5 million in royalties plus a $300,000 licensing fee. [3]

03

Cramer beneficially owned 399,576 TheStreet shares, or 7.5%, before the 2019 transaction; the $16.5 million purchase price covered the entire company. [6]

Jim Cramer’s public career contains plenty of large numbers, but most describe other people’s capital, a public company or a media business. This review replaces the former page’s conflicting $80 million, $100 million and $150 million totals with one clearly attributed outside estimate and a ledger of documentary evidence.

The SEC filings are strong enough to establish historical compensation and ownership. They are not a substitute for current bank, brokerage, property, tax and debt records. Net Worth VIP — methodology

01 / From Goldman Sachs to his own fund

Cramer Berkowitz built the fortune story — but fund assets belonged to investors

After Harvard Law School and a period at Goldman Sachs, Cramer launched the investment partnership that became Cramer Berkowitz in 1987. The fund is the most plausible origin of his private wealth, yet no public personal balance sheet survives from the period.

Institutional Investor described the firm as a roughly $400 million operation. That was assets under management: investor capital controlled by the fund, not Cramer’s net worth. The magazine also reported a 24% average annual compounded return supplied by investors and noted that the fund did not submit results to the main hedge-fund databases.

The famous 24% figure is therefore useful historical reporting, not a publicly audited performance series. Fees, Cramer’s ownership share, withdrawals, taxes and later investment results remain unknown.

02 / What TheStreet actually paid

The best disclosed income figure is $2.8 million for 2018

TheStreet’s SEC-filed compensation table reports $2.8 million in cash compensation for 2018: $2.5 million in royalty payments and a $300,000 licensing fee. This is a documented annual company payment, before personal tax, rather than a current salary or net-worth figure.

A revised agreement reduced the guaranteed annual royalty from $2.5 million to $2 million and placed more compensation at risk. The services agreement treated Cramer as an outside contributor and also recorded that CNBC reimbursed TheStreet for certain Mad Money research staff.

These filings support a substantial media-and-subscription income stream. They do not validate the recurring claim that CNBC itself pays Cramer $5 million a year; no current CNBC contract or salary disclosure was located.

03 / The 2019 TheStreet sale

A $16.5 million acquisition was not Cramer’s personal payday

TheMaven paid $16.5 million in cash for all outstanding TheStreet shares. The merger proxy expected total stockholder value — including the merger payment, a prior distribution and a contingent value right — of about $32.5 million to $33.3 million. Both figures describe company-wide consideration.

The proxy listed Cramer with 399,576 shares, or 7.5% beneficial ownership. Multiplying that stake by the transaction’s per-share components can illustrate scale, but it still does not establish his after-tax proceeds: the exact treatment of options, distributions, the contingent right and other holdings matters.

After the sale, Cramer entered a separate Cramer Digital partnership with the buyer. That continuing commercial relationship further shows why the acquisition price cannot be treated as a clean exit check added directly to personal net worth.

04 / CNBC, Mad Money and the Investing Club

Visible programs, private contract economics

Mad Money premiered in 2005 and remains one of Cramer’s two longstanding CNBC television programs alongside Squawk on the Street. CNBC also operates the paid Investing Club around his charitable-trust portfolio, daily analysis and member events.

The revenue of CNBC, membership fees and the value of securities discussed on air do not belong to Cramer personally. His contract compensation, profit participation and current book or speaking income are private.

Celebrity Net Worth publishes a $5 million salary figure, but it does not provide a current contract. We retain it only as a third-party claim and exclude it from the evidence ledger.

05 / Wife, daughters and current work

Lisa Cadette Detwiler, Emma and Cece — with no invented family members

Cramer married Lisa Cadette Detwiler on April 18, 2015. Public reporting identifies her as a real-estate professional and restaurant manager. She is his current wife; the prior article’s restaurant claims were inaccurate and are removed.

He has two daughters, Emma and Cece, from his former marriage to Karen Backfisch. The old page invented a son named Jack and inconsistently described the family; the new profile uses only the two publicly documented children.

As of this review, Cramer continues with Mad Money, Squawk on the Street and the CNBC Investing Club. Those roles make his income sources easy to identify, but they still do not disclose his current assets, debts or investment-account value.
