The most reliable number in Lil Wayne’s finances came out by accident. His former manager sued him in December 2020, and the complaint disclosed something no one else had: that in June of that year, Wayne had sold the Young Money masters to Universal for more than $100 million. Wayne never announced it. Universal never confirmed it. It surfaced because someone wanted a cut.
Lil Wayne Net Worth: What the Sources Say
- $170 million — Celebrity Net Worth, the only publisher of this figure
- Forbes’ only net worth statement was “$100 million-plus” — in 2013. Its profile page for him stops at 2012 earnings.
- Wayne himself says no. In 2023: “I don’t have a cent close to that sh*t.”
- Our take: a range of roughly $100–170 million, anchored on the one court-documented transaction. See our methodology.
The Forbes Attribution Is Fabricated
Dozens of pages state that Forbes values Lil Wayne at $170 million. Forbes does not. We checked three Forbes properties: his profile page carries a single figure — $27 million in earnings, dated May 2012 — and no net worth at all. He is absent from the Forbes Five in 2017. The only genuine Forbes valuation is from 2013, saying he had “crossed the $100 million threshold for the first time” and remained just outside the top five.
So the $170 million is Celebrity Net Worth’s number, laundered through aggregators until it acquired a Forbes byline it never had. And the subject himself pushed back in a March 2023 interview, responding to the figure Google was showing: “I don’t have a cent close to that.”
The Masters Sale: One Hard Number, With Three Caveats
The June 2020 sale is documented in a sworn filing in California Superior Court, dated 10 December 2020, brought by his former manager Ronald Sweeney. It states Wayne “was able to sell the Young Money Masters to Universal Music Group for in excess of $100 Million.” A New York court in 2025 separately referred to the “nine-figure” masters sale. Music Business Worldwide reported it when the filing surfaced.
Three things stop it from settling the question:
- It was not only his music. The Young Money catalog included Drake, Nicki Minaj and Tyga masters. How the proceeds divided depends on ownership terms settled confidentially in 2018.
- It is gross. Before tax, before commissions — and Sweeney then litigated for years over a slice of it.
- Neither party ever confirmed it. The figure exists only because an adversary put it in a pleading.
That litigation ended in his favour. In October 2025 a New York judge ruled Sweeney was not entitled to the $20 million contingency fee he claimed, blocked his discovery into Wayne’s profits, and limited him to reasonable fees yet to be established.
$51 Million Sought, an Unknown Amount Received
The masters sale only became possible because of a fight that ran from 2015 to 2018. In January 2015 Wayne sued Cash Money for $51 million, alleging Birdman’s label had withheld money and was sitting on Tha Carter V. He also asked a court to declare him joint copyright holder of everything Young Money had released — Drake and Nicki Minaj recordings included. A second, separate action followed in March 2016, seeking $40 million from Universal over Young Money profits.
The 2018 settlement is the weakest number in his whole story, and it is quoted everywhere as though it were solid. Forbes reported “well over $10 million” — attributing it to The Blast, i.e. secondhand. No party has ever confirmed an amount; as recently as the 2025 ruling the terms were still described as confidential. Wayne’s own lawyer said only that it was “amicably resolved.” What is not in dispute is what he walked away with: ownership of his music and his masters.
Three Ventures That Get Described Wrong
Bumbu rum is not his. It belongs to Sovereign Brands, founded by Brett and Brian Berish. Wayne came in around 2018 as an investor and brand partner, with no disclosed equity stake or payout. Pernod Ricard took a minority stake in Sovereign Brands in 2021; whether Wayne participated is not public.
Young Money APAA Sports’ “billion dollars” is not revenue. The agency, formed in 2017 by merging his sports arm with APAA, says it has negotiated contracts surpassing a billion dollars across around 65 athletes. That is the value of players’ contracts — an agency earns a small percentage. His ownership share is undisclosed.
Trukfit has no public financials at all. Launched in 2012 and sold through Macy’s and Zumiez, he later bought the licence back and relaunched it. No sale price, no revenue, no exit has ever been reported.
A Weaker Recent Run Than the Numbers Suggest
Tha Carter VI arrived in June 2025 and debuted at #2 with 108,000 equivalent units, held off by Morgan Wallen. Set against Tha Carter V‘s 480,000 first-week units in 2018, that is roughly a four-and-a-half-fold decline, and the lowest debut of the series.
He was also passed over for the Super Bowl LIX halftime show in his own city, New Orleans, in favour of Kendrick Lamar. He said in September 2024 that it “broke me,” and in an April 2025 cover story ruled the show out permanently: “They stole that feeling. I don’t want to do it.”
One genuine gap in any bottom-up estimate: no touring grosses are publicly reported for either the 2025 Carter VI tour or the 2026 “20 Years of Carter Classics” extension. Touring is likely his largest ongoing income source, and it is invisible in the record. Anyone quoting a figure for it is guessing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Short answers to the most common questions about this profile. For our sourcing and update method, see our Methodology page.
What is Lil Wayne's net worth in 2026?
Celebrity Net Worth estimates $170 million, and it is the only publisher of that figure. We would give a range of roughly $100 to $170 million instead, anchored on the one court-documented transaction - the June 2020 sale of the Young Money masters to Universal for more than $100 million. Wayne himself disputed the widely circulated number in a March 2023 interview: 'I don't have a cent close to that.'
Does Forbes value Lil Wayne at $170 million?
No. This attribution is false and it is everywhere. Forbes' profile page for him carries a single figure - $27 million in earnings, dated May 2012 - and no net worth at all. He was left off the Forbes Five in 2017. The only genuine Forbes valuation is from 2013, saying he had 'crossed the $100 million threshold for the first time' and remained just outside the top five. The $170 million is Celebrity Net Worth's number with a Forbes byline attached to it by aggregators.
How much did Lil Wayne get for his masters?
More than $100 million, per a sworn filing in California Superior Court dated 10 December 2020 by his former manager Ronald Sweeney, and a New York court later referred to the sale as 'nine-figure'. Three caveats: the Young Money catalog also contained Drake, Nicki Minaj and Tyga masters, so not all of it was his; the figure is gross, before tax and commissions; and neither Wayne nor Universal ever confirmed it. It became public only because an adversary put it in a pleading.
How much did Lil Wayne win from Cash Money?
Nobody knows. He sued for $51 million in January 2015 and separately sought $40 million from Universal in 2016, and both were settled in 2018 on confidential terms - still described as confidential in a 2025 ruling. Forbes reported 'well over $10 million', attributing it to The Blast, so it is secondhand and was never confirmed by any party. What is beyond dispute is the non-cash outcome: he came out owning his music and his masters.
Does Lil Wayne own Bumbu rum?
No. Bumbu belongs to Sovereign Brands, founded by Brett and Brian Berish. Wayne joined around 2018 as an investor and brand partner with no disclosed equity stake or payout. Two related corrections: Young Money APAA Sports says it has negotiated contracts 'surpassing a billion dollars', but that is players' contract value, not agency revenue - agencies earn a small percentage of it. And Trukfit has never had any public financials at all.
