George ForemanNet Worth

No invented estate value: the $300M outside estimate checked against Foreman’s $110M grill-rights share, prior profit participation, boxing purses, Mary Joan Martelly and 12 children.

Net worth estimate
Not independently established

George Foreman’s estate value is not publicly verifiable. The Harris County docket records an affidavit in lieu of inventory, while Texas law permits the detailed inventory to be delivered to beneficiaries rather than filed publicly. A $300 million outside estimate cannot be reproduced from a public balance sheet. SEC filings do establish that Foreman’s share of the 1999 grill-rights acquisition was $110 million, while the often-quoted $137.5 million was the aggregate paid to three sellers.

The essentials

01

The current probate docket contains no public estate inventory; Texas law allows a qualifying executor to provide the detailed inventory to beneficiaries instead. [1]

02

The filed grill agreement allocates $110 million to Foreman and $27.5 million to two other sellers, producing the $137.5 million aggregate headline. [6]

03

SEC filings describe the earlier grill economics as a 60% profit participation for the participant group, not a disclosed $4.50-per-unit royalty to Foreman. [7]

Boxing rise · Grill deal · Profit share · Other ventures · Family and estate

George Foreman left two visible financial careers: championship boxing and a licensing partnership that put his name on more than 100 million grills. Both generated large documented gross amounts, but neither supplies the missing assets, liabilities, taxes and distributions of his estate.

This review preserves the earlier article’s unusual SEC and court research while narrowing claims that went beyond those records. Contract consideration, participant-level profit, gross purse and estate value answer different questions. Net Worth VIP — methodology

01 / Olympic gold to two heavyweight reigns

The sports legacy spans 26 years — and two very different careers

Foreman won Olympic heavyweight gold in Mexico City in 1968 and stopped Joe Frazier in 1973 to become world heavyweight champion. His loss to Muhammad Ali in 1974 became the defining setback of his first career.

After a ten-year retirement, he returned in 1987 and regained a heavyweight title by stopping Michael Moorer in 1994. At 45, he became the oldest heavyweight champion at that time.

Public purse evidence is selective rather than complete. UPI reported a guaranteed $12.5 million for the 1991 Evander Holyfield fight and $5 million for the Moorer bout. Those gross purses do not reveal taxes, managers, training expenses or what remained decades later.

02 / The grill acquisition

The filed contract separates Foreman’s $110 million from the $137.5 million headline

Salton’s acquisition agreement names three sellers. Foreman’s consideration was $100 million in cash and $10 million in stock; the two other participants received $13.75 million each. The frequently repeated $137.5 million was the aggregate transaction, not Foreman’s personal share.

The $100 million cash component was not delivered all at once. The agreement set $20 million at closing and four annual $20 million installments, without interest and subordinated to Salton’s bank facility. Later filings trace the share guarantee and final payment.

A separate appearance agreement required $2 million in total payments through 2007. These figures are gross contractual consideration. Tax, advisers, spending, investments and later liabilities prevent conversion into an estate value.

03 / Profit share, not a proven $4.50 royalty

The filings support a 60% profit participation before the acquisition

Salton described the earlier arrangement as a joint venture in which Foreman and other participants were entitled to 60% of profits from the products. That is materially different from the widely repeated claim that Foreman personally received $4.50 for every grill.

Pro-forma adjustments show $38.096 million paid to all participants for the fiscal year to June 1999 and $16.644 million for the following quarter. The filings do not disclose how those combined payments were divided, so no personal monthly figure should be inferred.

The acquisition took effect July 1, 1999 and gave Salton worldwide perpetual appliance-name rights. It replaced the prior economics with the purchase and separate appearance arrangements. Later unit totals therefore cannot be multiplied by an alleged continuing per-unit royalty.

04 / Early contracts and later ventures

The public trail shows why gross receipts are not the same as retained wealth

A 1974 federal judgment describes early management contracts assigning large shares of Foreman’s earnings and treating annual payments as advances. It also records a $250,000 purse for a 1973 Tokyo defense, subject to Japanese withholding.

Later public-company filings show other ventures rather than a simple endorsement annuity. One 2005 transaction valued contributed intellectual property at about $2.154 million; a 2010 filing records Foreman’s resignation and the intellectual property being assigned back.

The George Foreman Youth and Community Center has a separate nonprofit balance sheet. Its assets and revenue belong to the organization, not automatically to Foreman or his estate.

05 / Family and the private estate inventory

Mary Joan, 12 children and a probate record without a public valuation

Foreman was married to Mary Joan Martelly from 1985 until his death. Associated Press reporting identifies 12 children, including five sons named George.

Foreman died in Houston on March 21, 2025, at age 76. His family did not disclose a cause. In April 2026, the family publicly explained his burial in Sioux City, Iowa, following a peaceful visit he remembered from 1988.

The Harris County docket identifies the probate case and a June 2026 affidavit in lieu of inventory. Texas Estates Code § 309.056 allows qualifying independent executors to provide the detailed inventory to beneficiaries instead of filing it publicly. The current court record therefore supplies no estate valuation; it does not justify saying a value can never emerge from another source.

Common questions

Questions, answered

What was George Foreman’s net worth when he died?

No independently verifiable estate value is public. A $300 million estimate circulates, but the probate docket contains no public inventory and no source publishes a complete asset-and-liability schedule.

How much did George Foreman receive for the grill rights?

The filed agreement allocates $110 million to Foreman: $100 million in cash and $10 million in stock. The $137.5 million headline was the aggregate paid to Foreman and two other sellers.

Did George Foreman receive $4.50 for every grill?

The SEC filings reviewed do not support a flat $4.50 royalty paid personally to Foreman. They describe a prior joint venture in which the participant group received 60% of product profits; Foreman’s individual split is not disclosed.

Who was George Foreman’s wife, and how many children did he have?

He was married to Mary Joan Martelly from 1985 until his death. Foreman had 12 children, including five sons named George.

Why is George Foreman’s estate inventory not public?

The docket records an affidavit in lieu of inventory. Texas Estates Code § 309.056 permits a qualifying independent executor to give beneficiaries the detailed inventory instead of filing it publicly, so the court record currently provides no valuation.
